Why does every Toyota sound the same when starting them up? It’s been puzzling me for a while and nobody seems to have a genuine answer?
~ I’ve owned many Toyotas in my life.
(I notice all sounds in and out my cars)

They use the same starters
Probably because Denso makes all of Toyota’s starters.

To the untrained ear maybe. They don’t all sound the same. Some sound quite different. But I’m a weirdo who has been working in the automotive industry for like 25 years and can usually tell you what kind of car it is by hearing it start.
Same starters. 80’s-2000’s Hondas all sound the same a start up. Jeeps, 60-70’s Chryslers..
Mechanical fan clutch
I’ve only had a Tacoma and a 4Runner with the 4.0L V6 and they both sound like industrial fans when you start them up. Do other Toyotas sound like that?
Not all of them sound the same, but some of them share the same sounds.
My wife’s ’15 Highlander does not sound like my ‘11 Tundra. Sometimes my wallet wished it did though.
There are three Toyotas in my driveway and I can assure you they all sound different when starting.
Interchangeable parts. It’s this wild new manufacturing concept.
Uniformity of Design according to Mr Toyoda
Just brought a rav 4 , and the motor has a loud ticking noise, like the lifters.. casually goes away as it heats up? Is this a Toyota thing?
My Prius sounds like… nothing when it starts up. 😀
How come every car from the same brand is similar?
Lol my GR Corolla circuit edition does not sound like a Rav 4 when it start it up. I’m sure the GR Supra and 86 don’t sound like a Camry either. No no
A LOT of Toyotas share the same engine, powertrain, and accessories. There are bound to be some similarities.
That is the sound of greatness that you were hearing.
That’s like asking why Porsche all sound like they’re trying to give you a heart attack everytime I hear one.
Do you mean the sound of the parking brake disengaging? I’ve noticed they all sound pretty similar.
I think a 5.7 sounds a lot different to a 2gr lol
Same thing with fords, chev and dodge vehicles
I still can hear a D-4D starting a mile away, so distinct sound.
Some manufacturers saving technique , even engines they use the same ,the very first year was 2022-2023 that toyota uses turbo engine and i guess they fail at that
Hybrids don’t because it uses the hybrid motor to start the engine 😉
